EXPERIENCE

Document Sciences Corporation 2/97 to present

Principal Software Engineer

Participated on international team to design, develop, and deliver a J2EE based enterprise application called xPression. The application runs on WebSphere and Weblogic application servers running on a variety of platforms and can utilize databases including Oracle, DB2, and SQL Server. Development technologies included Java, XML, and EJB. Development tools include WSAD, Visual Age, XML Spy, and Rational Rose.

Prior to the xPression project, position responsibilities included defining development processes and software designs as well as hands-on software engineering. Development was done on Autograph product line developing an application that generated COBOL application to run on many platforms. Application allowed user to graphically model the application for reading data and mapping into a document template to feed into the company’s composition engine for high volume print and document automation.

Sr. Software Engineer

Position includes software engineering on a variety of platforms including Windows application development with MFC on Windows 95 and NT.

GR8ideas Interactive, LTD. 7/96 to 2/97

Sr. Producer - Position included managing the design and development of a variety of interactive products for CD ROM, set-top platforms, and the Internet. Projects included website development and management of contract workers for various projects.

nu.millennia|inc. 4/95 to 6/96

Sr. Producer - Managed the design and development of a variety of enhanced CD products including Soundgarden – Alive in the Superunknown (A&M Records), Clay Walker-Self Portrait (Giant Records), Bored Generation (Epitaph Records), nu.millennia recording artists, and web site layout. Established a 12-week project development process from creative treatment through gold master. Position included interfacing with recording artists and their management as well as internal creative development staff and quality assurance. Demonstrated the ability to deliver products that creatively served the recording artists. Products were delivered on time and within budgets.

Compton's NewMedia 4/90 to 4/95

Sr. Production Manager/Production Director - Managed the data production of a variety of CD ROM based products with a staff varying between seven and fifteen employees. Managed all aspects of data production including text, images, audio, and video including scheduling and resources. Products credited include Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia for Windows, Mac, Philips CDi, and Sega CD, Dr.'s Book of Home Remedies, McGraw-Hill Multimedia History, The Multimedia Bible, Let's Go Europe, and more.

Production Manager - Staff varying between four and seven employees. Responsibilities ranged from organizing data and premastering CD ROM for mass production, to design and data strategy. Maintained a thorough knowledge of CD ROM, mixed-mode, digital audio, image, and video formats.

Sr. Software Engineer - User interface design and implementation on a variety of PC CD ROM products utilizing C and C++ programming languages as well as third party utilities and libraries. Developed Redbook or CD audio utilities and libraries for combined audio CDs. Development was mainly on DOS platforms but included some Windows. Acted as primary programmer on Compton's Family Encyclopedia, Guinness Disc of Records, and The Grammy Awards. Acted concurrently as system administrator on a Novell Netware network. Designed and setup the work groups and trustee directory assignments as well as organized daily backup and archival processes.

MicroAge Computer Store of Rancho Bernardo 10/88 to 4/90

Service Manager/Partner - Organized the service department and staff of three technicians performing setup, installation, trouble shooting and repair of PC, Apple, and Novell networks. Certified technician for Apple, IBM, Compaq, and Epson products.

Xerox Electronic Publishing 7/85 to 10/88

Software Engineer - User interface design and implementation for large production publishing package. System ran on MicroVAX II systems running on DECNET and Xerox Network. Development was on VAX 785 utilizing the C programming language. Other tasks included multiple platform support and font format conversion utilities.

Audio Workshop 7/81 to 7/85

Electronics Technician - Audio repair technician troubleshooting and repairing a variety of audio equipment. This particular time period was after receiving the A.S. degree in electronics and while pursuing the B.S. degree maintaining full-time student status.

Self Employed 6/71 to present

Performing Musician - Performed in a variety of rock and country bands and venues in the United States, Australia, and Canada. Areas of musical experience include music theory, arrangement, composition, guitar, saxophone, keyboards, vocals, MIDI sequencing and technology, and audio engineering. Performances include opening acts for bands/artists such as Roger Waters and The Mavericks. I continue to perform on a part-time basis locally in San Diego.
